Computer hard drive failure? (Computer & Hardware Questions)

by mike, Wednesday, March 03, 2010, 07:54 (190 days ago)

My PC crashed before christmas and now i cannot install windows updates. I ran belarc advisor and it said i have a hard drive failure which seems to make my computer run very slow. I had to run the start-up disc to get it running again after it crashed and defragemented the hard drive but nothing seems to resolve the problem. Is there anything i can do short of having a new hard drive installed?

Hey,

It sounds like there are bad sectors on the drive. What operating system do you have?

If you have XP goto "My Computer" and right click on the c:\, Properties, Tools Tab. Check for errors.

Reboot.

Start looking for a new hard drive. ;-)
