Computer won't load past the "Windows XP" logo? (Computer & Hardware Questions)

by DrakeMede, Monday, March 01, 2010, 15:05 (191 days ago)

Hi, I've had an Amilo L7320GW for a few years now, and out of the blue it now won't turn on past the windows XP logo, before turning off and rebooting again to the setup menu (the one where you have to choose various safe mode options, turn on Windows normally etc.). I've tried all options and still the laptop won't turn on further than the logo before looping round to the set up menu again.

What's wrong? Is it something to do with the operating system? Will I lose all my files on there?

We call this the XP boot loop. This usually happens when data on your drive gets corrupted. One thing you can try, if you have your XP cdrom, is a repair. Boot from the cdrom and choose to repair your operating system. Also if you are able to get in to command prompt from the start menu run chkdsk /f

Good Luck! ;-)
